What is your problem? You can not to the gym or need assistance in the city? Everything you need to do if you can not do is talk to the guy at the door and then save the game before one, turn it off, then speak to him again and then it will happen.
Works for me all the time.

Follow these steps:
1 - sabotage plans of Team Rocket in Goldenrod City.
2 - The mahogany and the city east of the ice cave.
3 - Go to the cave, remember that there are "puzzle" needed to be resolved.
4 - When leaving the other side may be in Blackthorn City.
